Who We Are

For over eighty years Family & Child Service of Schenectady has extended a hand of support to those who have difficulty meeting the challenges they face every day. Whether it’s providing much-needed counseling  for at-risk teenagers, respite for weary caregivers, or services enabling elderly or disabled people to remain at home, Family & Child Service works hard to keep families strong, healthy, happy and safe.

Family & Child Service of Schenectady, Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit  fostering the development of wholesome family life by helping families and individuals of any age from every social and economic class in Schenectady and surrounding areas.

We measure our success by the lives that we’ve changed and the people we’ve helped. Hundreds are affected directly by our services, but hundreds more are impacted by the results we achieve. Our core programs alone serve nearly 400 individuals and families - people of all ages, from all backgrounds, who struggle with a wide range of critical issues.

  • The Homemaker Program provides continued independence for frail elderly individuals
  • Case management services ensure that those living with developmental disabilities and/or brain injuries have the support they need to become more independent and to integrate more fully into the community at large
  • At-risk individuals receive counseling each year through a variety of programs
  • Serving clients by successfully adapting programs to meet today’s most pressing needs while looking ahead to anticipate and plan for future challenges
  • Steadily growing our financial resources: the Agency’s $1.5 million budget has doubled within the last ten years
